Google SuiteAll student work done on the Chromebook at school can be accessed anywhere there is internet access. To do this requires a student to login to the Google.com home page. At the start of the year, login and passwords were taped to the inside of each of my advisory students' planner.
Username: is the student's school email address Password: is the same assigned code used to access the Chromebook at school. Click here for visual step-by step directions on how to login from home. |

During 1st semester, students will work within a unit organized around the concept of change and how it functions in literature, writing, speech and language. Through a primary focus on the elements of persuasion, emphasis is placed on providing evidence for opinions in discussion and in written argument. This unit begins with a pre-test. From there, we work on vocabulary building and take vocabulary quizzes weekly. In class, we have reading materials from poems to primary sources. Students often complete close reads and create annotations and develop their critical listening as well as debate skills. An individual reading project is assigned in the first quarter as well as several assignments along the way for the novel Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston.

September and October* Reading Goal: 2 hours each
Students are required to read independently on a regular basis and turn in a reading log at the end of the month. Our class visits the school library bi-monthly to check out books. We also participate for 15 minutes of Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) on those days. The library catalog is now a bookmark on the student Chromebooks. This is a great resource for students to search for books on their own. IF ANOTHER READING LOG IS NEEDED CLICK here TO PRINT ANOTHER COPY. |
